Meat Church Rubs

One thing that makes the meat, is a good rub.  A perfectly cooked piece of meat can be for not if the correct rub is not used.  Some rubs are too salty, some are too bland, some are too overpowering, and some are just right.  The ones that are "just right" will keep you coming back for more and be the talk of dinner.  A bad rub, and you might as well not claim being the cook.

Insert Meat Church.  If you haven't heard of Meat Church, Matt Pittman is CEO and Pitmaster who really has some fantastic products in his line.  From seasonings to rubs, to brines and injections and even clothing, if the mood should strike you.  Meat Church has it all.  Meat Church products are sold online at the Meat Church Online Store, online retailers (Amazon), as well as some local retail stores.  Check out the Store Locator for a location near you.

Meat Church is probably best known for their seasonings and rubs.  The two rubs we'll be talking about for now are the Honey Hog and The Gospel.

Honey Hog

Rub Tested On:
  • Pork Shoulder (pulled pork)
  • Boneless Chicken Breast
  • Pork Tenderloin
  • Turkey
Overall, the rub is highly versatile, and if you're scared by the "honey" in the name, don't be.  Some items that you buy with honey in the name can be too overpowering and too sweet.  The honey in the Honey Hog is by no means overpowering.  There is a sweet taste to it, but nothing too sweet.  It has quickly become my go to rub, and will continue to be.  Anytime I've used the Honey Hog for grilling, I get some of the best GENUINE compliments and people can't quit talking about it.

The Gospel

Rub Tested On:
  • Pork Shoulder (pulled pork)
  • Boneless Chicken Breast
  • Pork Tenderloin
  • Steak
Billed as the All In One Rub by Meat Church, we found The Gospel rub to be just that.  A quality rub, with many versatile uses that met and exceeded our taste buds.  The Gospel rub has a Southwestern style to it due to it's bright red color, but is by no means spicy or overly salty.  A great blend of spices that equates to a great tasting and smelling meat.  The smell is phenomenal when using The Gospel.  I've found some rubs that brand themselves as "all purpose rubs" on the market to be really bland.  The Gospel rub is not one of them and for that, Meat Church should be applauded.👏

Other Notes

  • A 12 ounce shaker, will last quite some time.  Seasoning a full pork shoulder, 8 boneless chicken breasts and a couple smaller pork tenderloins with the Honey Hog, I have only used maybe 1/4 of the shaker.  Maybe I'm not seasoning enough or I have secret methods to avoid waste, either way the 12 ounce bottle appears will last me a while.
Check out Meat Church, and if you haven't heard of them, try them!  Then be prepared to never use another rub.
