I've had the Smoke for about 5 months now. I purchased it right after I got my Kamado Joe Classic. Prior to this, I used the Maverick ET-733 Wireless thermometer so that is really all I have to compare it to. The Smoke runs about $30 more, but in my opinion it is worth the difference in price. It seems to be built a lot better and it is WAY easier to operate/setup each time you cook something different.
The Smoke has 2 channels so you can monitor the pit temperature and meat temperature at the same time. It comes with the probes you will need for each of those. I did manage to ruin the High Temp Air Probe (pit temperature) the last time I used it. I started cooking low/slow, then brought the grill up above 500 degrees for searing and forgot to remove it. According to the specs their website the probe itself is rated up to 572 degrees, which I may have came close to. Normally I would have removed it, but I just forgot so I don't blame this at all on the product itself. Lesson learned, I ordered a new one which was delivered as I'm writing this.
The wireless receiver is supposed to work up to 300 feet away, I'm generally within about 50 feet of the base unit so I can't really speak to that without standing in one of my neighbors yards looking like an idiot staring at the receiver around my neck.
You can set High/Low alarms on both channels at the same time, turn both off at the same time, or have one on and one off. The alarms can be silenced on the base unit if desired so there are no audible alerts outside at the grill. You can also adjust the volume of the alarm on the base unit if you want it on but maybe just not as loud. Personally I leave it off because I'm normally not out at the smoker, especially not in the middle of the night during overnight cooks.
The wireless receiver only has one button. It is used to turn it on/off, turn on the back light, and to silence the alarm. Once you have silenced an alarm, it will not go off again until the temperature has gone back up into your set range, and then goes back out of range again either high or low. So if I'm set for Low of 220 / High of 250 and the grill drops to 215 the alarm will sound on the receiver. You can then silence the alarm and do whatever is needed to get the temperature backup to your desired range. You will not receive an alarm again until it gets back up to somewhere within your desired range, and then again gets either too low or too high.

I only had one of the probes connected in this picture, that is why there is no reading on the top channel. |
The backside has a pop out stand or magnets you can use to attach it to something else. |
